A proposal for a 27-acre solar farm will be part of a public hearing before the Orange County Board of Commissioners on Monday night.

A Florida-based company is applying for a special use permit proposing the development of “a solar array” off of US 70 in the Cheeks Township.

The 27-acre solar farm would be located on a piece of property approximately 52 acres in size, which was cleared of its timber within the last five years.

The planning board unanimously voted to recommend approval of the application at a meeting earlier this summer.

The proposal says this project would meet some of the county’s comprehensive goals including energy conservation, using and producing natural fuel and participating in green-energy programs.

The purpose of Monday’s public hearing is to receive sworn testimony and evidence, along with recommendations from local boards and staff regarding the project.

The meeting is scheduled for seven o’clock Monday night at the Whitted Building in Hillsborough.
