Hillsborough released its annual balanced scorecard on Monday night. The scorecard is meant to show citizens, town employees and politicians whether or not the town is meeting certain goals.

“It’s a performance measurement tool that the town of Hillsborough uses,” said public analyst and assistant public information officer Jenifer Della Valle. “It really helps in terms of mapping out what our objectives are as an organization and what are some initiatives that we can undertake to start meeting some of these goals.”

The scorecard covers a broad range of topics from town resources to personnel to crime.

Hillsborough met its goals this year on issues such as the percentage of sidewalks in good condition and the percentage of garbage routes completed on schedule.

“This exercise helps you keep the larger picture in mind in terms of what are some aspects that we really need to focus on as an organization to be successful,” she said.

This year the town saw an increase in the number of violent crimes per 1,000 citizens and also did not reach its goal on the percent of stormdrains cleaned.

“There’s always something along the way that kind of allow us to maybe not make as much progress as expected but that’s all useful information,” Della Valle said.
