Three weeks after asking Chapel Hill to push back a key deadline to approve Village Plaza Apartments, developers are once again asking for more time.

The project is the town’s first to be submitted under the new form based code in the Ephesus-Fordham district, which calls for review by town officials and the Community Design Commission instead of approval from the Town Council.

December 3 was the original deadline for the town manager to sign off on the plans for a six-story mixed-use development to be built in the vacant lot near Whole Foods on Elliot Road.

At that time, project planners asked for three weeks to sort out “minor revisions.” Now, they’re asking for two more weeks, pushing the deadline to December 17.

Developers from East West Partners say they plan to break ground shortly after approval is granted.
