A Durham County grand jury had indicted 46-year-old Craig Stephen Hicks on three counts of first-degree murder, according to multiple reports.

In addition to the three counts of murder, Hicks was indicted on a single charge of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling.

Hicks allegedly shot and killed three Muslim college students last week in the Finley Forest Condos in Chapel Hill.

Chapel Hill Police say that the preliminary investigation points to an ongoing parking dispute as the motive of the shooting. But law enforcement says they are continuing to investigate every lead.

Others believe the shooting was a hate crime and motivated by the victim’s religious affiliation.

The FBI has also opened an independent inquiry into the incident to determine if any federal laws were broken.
