The gold was not the only medal for the Hillsborough brewery.  Their “St. Stephen’s Green” picked up the silver medal in the Classic Irish Dry Stout category.  St. Stephen’s Green is named after a park in Dublin, Ireland, according to Mystery’s website.  Back in 2014, the brewery won a silver medal at the prestigious Great American Beer festival.

Other area breweries also did well in the US Open Beer Championship.  Durham’s Fullsteam Brewery picked up two medals:  A silver in the vegetable beer category for their sweet potato lager “Carver” and a bronze in the International Style Pilsner category for their “Paycheck.”

Raleigh’s Lynnwood Brewing won gold in the Imperial Stout-English category for their “Putin Tang,” earned a silver medal in the Session IPA category for their “3-A-Day” and a bronze in the Classic Irish Dry Stout category for their “Kiss My Irish Stout.” Cary’s Fortnight Brewing picked up a silver medal for their Blonde Ale in the Golden or Blonde Ale category and a bronze medal for their ESB in that category.  Apex’s Southern Peak Brewery scored silver medals in the Altbier and Baltic Porter categories.

Almost 5,000 beers representing over 90 different styles were submitted for consideration.
