North Carolinians voted Tuesday and decided many important local elections; voters also decided their candidates for elections this fall.

Hillary Clinton won the Democratic Primary with about 55% of the vote beating Bernie Sanders with 40% of the vote. Donald Trump won the Republican primary, defeating Ted Cruz in a race that was closer than expected.

The stage is set for many of the general election races this fall in North Carolina.

Deborah Ross secured the Democratic nomination with about 65% of the vote and will face incumbent Republican Senator Richard Burr. Burr won his primary election with over 60% of the vote, fighting off a strong challenge from Greg Brannon.

Democrat Roy Cooper won the Democratic nomination and will face incumbent Governor Pat McCrory in November. McCrory defeated two challengers in the Republican primary with over 80% of the vote.

Josh Stein is the Democratic choice in the race for NC Attorney General and will face Republican nominee Buck Newton.

Linda Coleman will represent the Democrats in November against incumbent Republican Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest.

Former Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker narrowly beat Mazie Ferguson in the Democratic race for Labor Commissioner and will face current Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry.

Steve Troxler will continue to serve as NC Commissioner of Agriculture after defeating Andy Stevens in the Republican primary; there is no Democratic challenger.

Mike Causey won a close Republican primary for Commissioner of Labor and will face Democratic incumbent Wayne Goodwin.

Michael LaPaglia won the Republican primary for NC Secretary of State and will challenge democratic incumbent Elaine Marshall.

Democrat June Atkinson will face Republican Mark Johnson in the general election this fall in the race for NC Superintendent of Public Instruction.
