The UNC System has been in the news a lot in recent years amid policy decisions and governance changeover as Republican legislative leaders have increasingly made their own appointments to the system’s Board of Governors, which is made up of nearly all Republicans. Three years ago, that led to the ouster of system president Tom Ross in favor of a new president more in line with the current board’s thinking. But now the term of that selection, Margaret Spellings, is coming to an end.
