Welcome to Woman Crush Wednesday!
This week, join 97.9 The Hill’s Ali Evans for a conversation with Geniece Bey – owner of Gege The Neighbor Cupcakery in Burlington. Geniece opened the bakery in early 2019 after growing up with a passion for making people feel joy by baking for them. According to Geniece, “you can be having a bad day, but you go and get a cupcake, your day has completely turned around!” (We wholeheartedly agree.)
One of Geniece’s favorite parts of being a business owner is the opportunity to create. “I went to Durham School of The Arts, and I was there from 6th – 12th grade, so art is in my blood.” After being accepted by Johnson & Wales University with the intention of studying Culinary Arts, Geniece was unable to afford tuition, even after being offered a scholarship. She instead attended business school, and rediscovered her passion for baking with a new goal: becoming a business owner.
As for advice for someone who wants to start their own business? Geneice keeps it simple – “Take the leap; You can do anything!”
