A Letter of Support
A perspective from Karen Stegman
This year’s election in Chapel Hill is one of the most contentious and critical in recent memory. And unfortunately, it is shaping up as the least truthful – at least by some of the candidates – as well.
This year we have an opportunity to elect a candidate to Chapel Hill Town Council who has personal experience with the opportunity crisis facing young professionals, renters, and low-income residents in Chapel Hill.
There’s only one candidate on the ballot this year for Chapel Hill Town Council in his twenties. There’s only one candidate making ends meet in Chapel Hill on less than $30,000 per year. There’s only one candidate who has organized campus workers to win a major pay raise. That candidate is Theodore Nollert, and we’re proud to support him for Chapel Hill Town Council.
We’re confident that Theodore and the young people he works with represent the future of our Town – future that can be full of progress, prosperity, and hope.
Chapel Hill, like our state, is facing serious challenges. Workers commuting from further and further away, housing costs on the rise, too few jobs here in town that let young folks plant roots, and a hostile state legislature. We are looking for young leaders who will step up and shape the world that they will inherit, and Theo is doing just that. He has served on the Town’s Planning Commission, won a huge graduate student pay raise, and is knocking on thousands of doors to hear directly from residents about their hopes for our town. He has a direct stake in many of our town’s most crucial challenges, from housing to transportation to the life of our downtown. Our Town needs pragmatic leaders who are thoughtful, open-minded, and willing to put in the work. Theo fits the bill.
Please join us in supporting Theodore Nollert for Chapel Hill Town Council.
Signed,
Jane and Adam Stein
