The top-ranked UNC women’s soccer team held visiting Miami to just one total shot and zero shots on goal Thursday night, controlling the match from start to finish in a 1-0 win.

A goal from Emily Colton – her first of 2023 – in the 16th minute was all UNC needed to cruise to victory, though the margin could have been much larger had Miami’s goalkeeper not made eight saves. Five of those came in a second half in which Carolina fired 14 total shots and took 10 corner kicks. The Hurricanes didn’t take a corner kick on the evening.

Redshirt freshman Nona Reason was making just her second career start in goal for Carolina, but she didn’t have to do much in order to earn her second clean sheet. Reason wasn’t credited with a single save. Offensively, Ally Sentnor, Tori Dellaperuta and Evelyn Shores each took three shots each. Sentnor has taken 52 shots in total on the year, nearly double Olivia Thomas’ 28 in second place.

The win keeps No. 1 Carolina unbeaten on the year at 9-0-4 overall and 4-0-1 in conference play. The Tar Heels’ next match will take them down 15-501 for a visit to No. 22 Duke on Sunday at 4 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ACC Network.
