Today, the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters brought together broadcasters from across the state for the 2019 Industry Awards. It was my honor to accept the award for Station of the Year (non-metro) on behalf of 97.9 The Hill.
Hear this: Your community radio station – 97.9 The Hill WCHL – is the Station of the Year!
So, how does the NCAB judge? They look for:
- how the station reaches and serves its audience
- innovative programming
- audience involvement and promotion
- commitment to the community
For a small, locally owned and operated business like ours, this kind of recognition is huge. It’s an acknowledgement of the work we do every day to provide our listeners and readers with the community resource they deserve, and I want to shout it from the rooftops how proud I am of this achievement.
But I would be remiss if I didn’t express deep gratitude for everyone that makes everything on 97.9 The Hill possible.
Thank you, listeners — many of whom we know really, really well. Without your ears, who would win the daily trivia contest? Who would be a WCHL road warrior and provide on-the-fly traffic reporting? Who would bring Nicki and Ron breakfast in the morning (hint hint)? Everything we do, we do for you. Thank you for being such good neighbors.
Thank you, advertisers. Without your partnership, we wouldn’t exist to serve this community with up-to-date news, information and entertainment – and our airwaves wouldn’t have the rich assortment of local voices that makes our station completely unique.
Thank you, on-air contributors, community partners, friends, family and supporters. For it is our connection to you, with you and through you that helps us to remain a vital piece of the fabric and history of our community. You make us who we are.
Finally, a huge shout out to the dedicated team of professionals here at 97.9 The Hill. Ron Stutts, Nicki Morse, Aaron Keck, Blake Hodge, Kenny Dike, Jada Jarillo, Victor Lewis, Aaron Johnson, Art Chansky, Dakota Moyer, Justin Scism, Ali Evans, Tracey Himmel, Anna Griffin, Avery Trendel, Kelly Fahey and Sam Bermas-Dawes.
I love you all and am grateful every day for all you do.
