Noir at the Bar, the long-running live literary event that combines crime fiction, cocktails, and live performance, returns to Yonder in downtown Hillsborough on Thursday, July 16 at 7:00 p.m.
Hosted by longtime emcee Tracey Reynolds, the evening will feature live readings from an all-star lineup of acclaimed authors including Eryk Pruitt, S.A. Cosby, Linda Sands, Jen Conley, Russell Johnson, Morgan Sullivan, Nathan Kotecki, and Isaac Hughes Green.
Part literary reading, part variety show, and part community gathering, Noir at the Bar gives each author eight minutes to entertain the audience with original fiction, stories, and excerpts. The result is an evening filled with suspense, humor, surprises, and the occasional gasp from the crowd.
In addition to the readings, attendees can expect specialty cocktails created by the staff at Yonder, book giveaways throughout the evening, and opportunities to meet the featured writers.
“This is our seventh year in business and Noir at the Bar is what makes it all worth it to me,” said Eryk Pruitt, co-owner of Yonder and author of five crime novels. “I’ve dedicated nearly my whole life to introducing readers and writers to each other and there is no greater privilege than to do it here.”
Since its founding, Noir at the Bar has become one of the most beloved literary traditions in the Triangle, attracting readers, writers, and curious newcomers alike. The format is intentionally informal, welcoming audiences to drop in for a single story or stay for the entire evening.
“Stop in for a story or two, or stay the whole night,” said emcee Tracey Reynolds. “Come late or leave early or stick around and take a writer home with you. It’s the craziest night in the Triangle.”
Yonder’s intimate atmosphere has helped make the event a favorite destination for literary fans seeking something different from a traditional author reading. The combination of nationally recognized authors, local literary talent, handcrafted cocktails, and a lively audience creates a one-of-a-kind experience that continues to draw crowds year after year.
Noir at the Bar begins at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16 at Yonder, located at 114 West King Street in Hillsborough.
