Small Surprise Spotlight: Main Street Cake

Welcome to the Small Surprise Spotlight, presented by Alamance County Visitors Bureau. We’re uncovering hidden gems in Alamance County that might be closer than you think!

This month’s feature is Main Street Cake – the sweetest little bakery in Burlington! Owner Holly Cirri recently joined us to share more about her business and what makes Alamance County so special.

1. How did you get started as a business owner? What made you want to own/operate Main Street Cake?

Once I was able to see retirement in my near future, I started looking into the possibility of following my dream of operating a small baking business from my home.  While I was doing some research on baking and bakeries I found a locally owned bakery that was for sale.  One thing led to another and I decided to leave my full time job and became the owner and operator of Main Street Cake.

2. Why was Alamance County the best location when you decided to open your business?

Main Street Cake existed before I was the owner, and it’s been in Alamance County for 10 years! Although we didn’t select the location, we couldn’t ask for a better county to live and work in.  It is a very caring community with strong support for small businesses.

3. What do you think is the most unique thing about your business? What makes you different?

We are both the owners and the operators of the bakery – working 7 days a week to keep things going.  We take great pride in providing quality products for our customers.  Everything is baked and decorated on site, with our selection changing every day we are open.  We do our best to support the community with special offers, donations, and participation at events.

4. If someone was taking a day trip to Alamance County, other than something sweet from Main Street Cake, what would you recommend they do?

For anyone who likes the outdoors and canoeing/kayaking, I highly recommend visiting the Alamance section of the Haw River Trail.

5. What’s something about Alamance County that most people don’t know?

Amtrak trains stop in Burlington, NC.  It’s an easy way to travel to and from Alamance County to other parts of NC and throughout the U.S.

6. What is your favorite thing on the Main Street Cake Menu?

I love our coconut cake and our cherry vanilla cupcakes!

7. How do you hope to see your business grow?

Our storefront is currently only open 4 days a week, but we hope to someday be able to provide sweet treats to the community all week long.
