Welcome to the Small Surprise Spotlight, presented by Alamance County Visitors Bureau. We’re uncovering hidden gems in Alamance County that might be closer than you think!

In October’s feature Fogleman Farms invites readers to explore their family-friendly farm packed with Fall fun for everyone just a short ride away.  We touched based with owner Alex Fogleman to learn more about what you can expect to find.

  1. What is the history of Fogleman Farms?

Fogleman Farms has been a proud part of Alamance County’s agricultural community since 1934. In its early years, the farm focused on traditional crops such as tobacco, strawberries, and a variety of other fruits and produce. As the years progressed, our operation expanded into small grain farming, reflecting both the changing agricultural landscape and our dedication to growth and innovation.

In 2020, we entered an exciting new chapter with the creation of Sophia’s Pumpkin Patch, named in honor of our daughter, Sophia. That first year, we sold pumpkins grown by other local farms as we introduced the new venture to the community. Inspired by the positive response, we began growing our own pumpkins in 2021, allowing us to expand our offerings and deepen our connection to local agriculture.

What began as a small roadside pumpkin stand quickly grew into a beloved seasonal tradition. Today, our farm has evolved into Fogleman Farms Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch, an agritourism destination where families can experience the beauty of farm life, enjoy fun-filled attractions, and make lasting memories together.

  1. Why is Alamance County such a great place for agritourism?

Alamance County is an ideal location for agritourism due to its rich agricultural history, scenic farmland, and diverse farm experiences. Visitors can enjoy activities such as pumpkin patches, hayrides, and educational farm tours, making it both fun and informative. Its proximity to nearby cities also makes it easily accessible for day trips and family outings.

  1. What are the most popular activities offered by Fogleman Farms?

At Fogleman Farms, we offer a variety of attractions for visitors of all ages, including our Corn Maze, Hayride, Bounce Houses, Pedal Trike Track, Cow Train, Corn Pit, Megaslide, and more. This year, some of our most popular attractions are new additions—the Corn Pit and Pedal Trike Track—which have quickly become favorites among our guests.

  1. What other kinds of local activities would you recommend that visitors explore when they visit Alamance County?

Homeland Creamery is local dairy farm located just down the road that we would recommend you check out. They have delicious ice cream and other dairy products available for purchase.

  1. What is something about Alamance County that most people don’t know?

Alamance County is home to over 500 working farms.  There are also many things to do, being in a prime location close to Greensboro, Durham, and Chapel Hill.

  1. What do you look forward to the most each Fall?

We look forward to opening the farm to all of our visitors and see the joy on families’ faces as they make memories together. Watching laughter, smiles, and fun-filled moments unfold is what makes our farm so special!
