While many holidays are created simply to sell Hallmark cards, National Dance Day is not one of them. This Saturday, July 29, marks the seventh annual National Dance Day, a festivity that begun in 2010 to celebrate dance and encourage Americans of all ages to get up and move to the groove.

National Dance Day was established by Nigel Lythgoe, a co-founder of the Dizzy Feet Foundation, which aims to advance access to dance education in the United States, particularly in low-income communities. Dizzy Feet aids these communities and educational institutions through grants that support dance programs.

Last July, WCHL and Chapelboro.com took to the streets to create a video of Chapel Hill locals showing their moves in celebration of National Dance Day. This year, we are creating another video, with a slight twist–we are hosting a giveaway! To enter, post a video of you (or your friends, family, or children) on Instagram, Vimeo, or YouTube with the hashtag “#thehilldanceday”. Then, submit the link to your video here or email it to info@chapelboro.com. The giveaway will be open until National Dance Day itself, Saturday, July 29. The winner will be announced next week and receive a special prize from WCHL’s lavish stack of gift cards. Happy dancing!
