The family band Secret Monkey Weekend joined Aaron on “Live & Local” Thursday night, with an album release party March 18 at Cats Cradle Back Room.

Secret Monkey Weekend consists of longtime local musician Jefferson Hart and his two stepdaughters, 19-year-old Ella Brown Hart and 14-year-old Lila Brown Hart. Lila says the band had its origins about six years ago, when she was inspired to join in on drums while Jefferson was teaching Ella how to play guitar. (The band’s name is taken from a vintage issue of Tiger Beat magazine, which had an article about members of The Monkees going on vacation.)

They started out playing covers, but now the Harts are writing their own songs – enough for an album, “All the Time in the World.” With the legendary Don Dixon as producer, “All the Time” features guest appearances by Will Rigby and Peter Holsapple of the dB’s.

The album releases on Friday, March 18 – and that evening, Secret Monkey Weekend will play an album release show at Cats Cradle Back Room, with guest appearances by Dixon and Jeffrey Dean Foster.

Jefferson, Ella, and Lila Hart joined Aaron Keck on 97.9 The Hill to discuss their story, the album, and the upcoming show – and to play three tracks from the album, “Honey Num,” “Greater Mind to Walk Away,” and “Fascist Blood Baby.” Listen below:
