Max Lane is not new to the music scene, but he only just started releasing music in 2023 – in prolific fashion, with two acclaimed singles along with the live EP. “It’s been a wild year,” he says. “I just recently came back to playing music for about a year now, so it’s been great.”
What got him back to music? “It took me getting sober,” he says. “(Music) was really my therapy, just having a sobriety journal and writing stuff down. I hadn’t really picked up a guitar or even written a song for a good four, five years…(and) I felt like in a lot of ways I had to rediscover my style again.”
That style, today, is vintage country, with Lane’s deep baritone delivering introspective lyrics over music drenched in his Louisiana roots. “I feel like (this) is the most honest, the most ‘me’ music I’ve ever made,” he says.
And that translates to his live performances as well – as captured on the “Live from the Nest” EP.
“Playing live, being sober, it’s a different experience,” he says. “But I love it. I really do. It’s made music new to me again.”
Max Lane stopped by Live & Local and played three songs: “Ghost Towns,” “Gospel,” and “Oblivion.” Listen:
