Lonnie made a big splash in the Triangle music scene last year, emerging in June with his debut album “Not/On My Own” and following that up in October with a second album, the stellar “Let’s Not Talk About It.”

“I’ve been playing and writing for 20 years,” he told 97.9 The Hill. “But during the pandemic I had nothing else to do, so I just kind of poured myself into writing.”

That process has birthed two acclaimed albums and multiple singles in the space of less than a year – and he says there’s more to come, as he’s working up to another recording session later this summer.

“There’s a lot of loneliness and despair” in his songs, Rott says. “And (there’s a) political angle to a lot of the lyrics, yearning for liberation, solidarity.”

You can see Lonnie Rott live in person this week: he’s playing a show at The Cave in Chapel Hill Tuesday, May 7, at 8:00 p.m.

Lonnie Rott stopped by Live & Local and played three songs: “Someone Else’s Time,” “Hungry,” and “One Day.” Listen:
