Local music legend Dex Romweber joined Aaron this week for Live & Local, to celebrate the release of “Good Thing Goin’,” his first new album in seven years.

If you don’t know Dexter Romweber, you don’t know the local music scene. Dex broke out in the 1980s with the Flat Duo Jets, a two-man psychobilly band that the White Stripes later cited as a key influence. (Dex says he and Jack White are still in touch.) The Duo Jets eventually split up but Dex never missed a beat, forming the Dex Romweber Duo with a new drummer: his equally legendary sister, the late Sara Romweber. He’s also been a prolific solo artist across the last three decades, with albums like 2004’s “Blues That Defy My Soul,” 2016’s “Carrboro” – and now “Good Thing Goin’,” released earlier this month by Propeller Sound Recordings.

Dedicated to Sara, “Good Thing Goin'” includes a wide variety of covers from across rock history – but also several originals, including “Saturday Morning,” an ode to road exhaustion first written in the 1980s when the Duo Jets were touring.

Dex Romweber stopped by Live & Local to chat about the album just before heading out of town for a northeastern tour. He also played three album tracks: “Good Thing Going,” “Shape of Things to Come,” and “I Found My Love.”
