On November 8, a new album will drop with 27 songs from great North Carolina artists – including many from the Triangle – all to raise funds and awareness to support mental health resources for musicians.
The album is called “Be Good To Yourself: Mental Health for NC Musicians.” Organized by Rob Slater, Ed Bumgardner and Chris Garges, the album will feature songs by Libby Rodenbough, John Howie Jr., Faith Jones, Don Dixon, John Elderkin of Mad Crush, Peter Holsapple of the dB’s – and many, many more.
The album will benefit two organizations, Abundance NC and the SIMS Foundation. The SIMS Foundation is the primary beneficiary: founded in 1995 by artists mourning the loss of Austin-based musician Sims Ellison, it’s now a national leader in mental health services for artists and performers.
97.9 The Hill’s Aaron Keck spoke with Slater, Bumgardner and Garges during “Live & Local” and played a song from the album: “Thunderbird,” by Rick Miller and Mary Huff of Southern Culture on the Skids. Listen below.
