Aaron welcomed the (newly renamed) band Gio Mesto to Live & Local this week, fresh off the release of their new album “Booya Ooya.”

Gio Mesto (formerly known as Gallus Mag) is a four-piece band comprised of Will Kitchin, Matt DeBellis, Cole Nichols, and Joseph Silvers. (The name “Gio Mesto” literally translates as “sad day” in Italian, though “gio” is also derivative of “giocondo,” a musical term meaning “playfully” – so the band’s name also means both “playful” and “sad.”) Despite losing bassist/vocalist Joel Floyd in the last year, Gio Mesto hasn’t skipped a beat: “Booya Ooya” (recorded by Bombadil’s James Phillips) is their third full-length album in as many years.

Gio Mesto stopped by Live & Local to discuss the new album, promote a pair of upcoming shows (at Neptunes on August 19 and the Carrboro Music Festival on September 29), and play the track “Twin House Shuffle.” Listen:
