This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Nancy Zeman from the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation. Zeman is being recognized for her work as the program services manager for the foundation.

“I’ve worked with Nancy about four years with the Public School Foundation, and she’s just an unsung hero,” said Roslyn Moffitt, the director of community and family engagement at Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. “She’s one of those folks that works quietly behind the scenes, but she’s the one who gets things done.”

As the program services manager for the Public School Foundation. Nancy Zeman has been instrumental in locating grant money from Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, helping fund initiatives relating to housing, nutrition, homelessness, mental health, and childcare technology.

Just in the last few months, Zeman has helped the district get almost a hundred thousand dollars worth of grant funding to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“She’s always willing to go the extra mile to assist teachers with projects and activities that they are interested in doing for their students,” said Moffitt.

Moffitt praised Zeman for her willingness to go above and beyond to help others.

“Anytime you call her and you have an idea or thought about something that’s going to help our students, she is 100 percent behind you. It’s never, ‘We can’t do this.’ It’s always, ‘How can we get this done?'”
