Friday’s Hometown Heros are Cordelia Heaney and Beth Posner.
Heaney and Posney both work with the Compass Center in Chapel Hill. The Compass Center helps individuals and families prevent and end domestic violence and become self-sufficient.
Cordelia is the executive director of the Compass Center. She started the job in August.
Beth is an attorney and has been providing legal services for the Compass Center for years. Now, she is a board member.
The Compass Center is hosting a big event Friday night. It is called Through Women’s Eyes, By Women’s Hands. It is their biggest fundraiser of the year. It is an art exhibition and silent auction featuring artwork by women across the state. The annual event features an anonymous art show with a variety of works, all 5×7 inches – all the artists are women, but you won’t know exactly who painted the piece until you buy it. (In addition to the anonymous exhibition, there’s also a silent auction, featuring works by Elaine O’Neil, Barbara Tyroler, Chieko Murasugi and more.)
You can nominate your own Hometown Hero. WCHL has honored local members of our community everyday since 2002.
