This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is David Andrews!

David Andrews — retiring this summer after nine years as Carrboro’s town manager — has been a force for change in our community. According to Carrboro mayor Lydia Lavelle, Andrews was instrumental in some of the town’s most important recent initiatives: Carrboro Connects, the town’s first-ever comprehensive plan, the rollout of racial equity training for all staff, The 203 Project — which will house the Orange County Southern Branch Library, the Affordable Housing Special Revenue Fund and the Energy and Climate Protection Plan and Community Climate action plan.

“David, I had no idea when you were first coming on board, how much you would completely read Carrboro, embrace her and then be able to move her forward with the creativity that you have been able to do,” said council member Randee Haven-O’Donnell.

“I feel very fortunate to have mayored with David, ” said Carrboro mayor Lydia Lavelle, who nominated Andrews as a Hometown Hero.  “I can imagine no better town manager to have governed with and led with during this time. … You were just what Carrboro needed when you came to us, and you are leaving us a better town.”
