Normally I avoid chains, but Lime Fresh Mexican Grill hadn’t hit my restaurant radar screen yet. After perusing the company’s creative website, it sounded tasty and unique with a twist. And it is! Started in Florida’s chic South Beach, this “fast casual” eatery is spreading up the East Coast. Lucky for us, one has landed at the new 140 West Franklin development.

The folks and I stood in the long Lime line on day two of its Chapel Hill debut. Luckily the line moved fast, and it was worth the wait. Nothing like a fiesta photo shoot to divert your attention. Folks of all ages will love that!

Back to the line. The line is required to dine. Order and pay first, next pick your dining spot, then wait for your food to be delivered table side. Keep in mind this is casual dining, but that’s a step above your typical “fast food” joint.

We opted to eat outside on one of the many patio tables. Our Trifecta appetizer arrived first and fast. That would be three dips and a side of tortilla chips for those who can’t decide on just one of the following – fresh guacamole, creamy queso and homemade pico de gallo salsa. I highly recommend all three for the flavor and freshness. Warning…chips and salsa is a bottomless commodity at Lime, along with a myriad of sauces. Fortunately, healthy options are abound. Between tortilla soup, fish tacos and a South Beach chicken burrito there was not a morsel left on our table!

Lime’s energy makes you feel like you’ve been transported somewhere, possibly to South Beach. Maybe it’s the fresh faces and the spicy sauces. The enthusiastic staff delivered what we ordered with smiles, promised to correct any mistakes and answered my myriad of questions.
