Exploring Your Creative Genius: Episode 55
Parag Bhandari, founder of UG Strategies and the promoter of Bull City Summit, was my guest on “Exploring Your Creative Genius” last week. We spoke about the remarkable line up of speakers on a variety of important topics and he had lots to say about the broad scope of technology and arts at the Summit and it seemed we kept drifting back to his first love, making music and keeping the beat.
He was the drummer in a high school band and still plays at the Blue Note Grill in Durham.
He had a long career as a DJ, touring with his beats.
His energy and pace led me to the idea that a fun supporting column for the show would be exploring beats and rhythm and pattern and movement, all for the drummer to influence and often direct.
Let’s begin with movement. You hear the beat, you got to move, and when you move, you’re smarter, and more sensual, in a more creative state of mind.
Can you find the rhythm? In your voice as you are storytelling? In the meeting as folks are debating what’s next or what’s best? In your relationship with a client? When you do, let’s see if it shows you your next best creative move.
The patterns in rhythms might help you see patterns to thoughts and patterns in choices and patterns for production that you can then nurture or modify or conclude.
Can you find the beat that invites collaboration, the rhythm that brings out the best of the team, and invest the patterns of energy that then maintain it?
“Exploring Your Creative Genius” takes an expansive view on what it means to be creative and entrepreneurial in an ongoing conversation led by Carl Nordgren — entrepreneur, novelist, and lifelong student with decades of experience growing his own creative capacity and assisting others to do the same in exciting new ways!
