Last week, a lost dog named Lily captured the attention of our community and Chapel Hill.
The 13-year-old Lily is the shop dog at Townsend Bertram & Company and went missing from her owner — Amy Kleissler’s– yard. Immediately, Amy knew something was wrong.
“She never leaves our yard and she’s old and her back legs are really weak,” Amy said. “So she’s not a dog that would have chased a rabbit or something.”
After combing the local area, Amy took to social media to ask for assistance.
She was contacted by many people willing to offer help and put up signs on major streets in Chapel Hill, including people who she didn’t know previously.
“I got a phone call from a guy named Will Lewis and I didn’t know him either. He had seen in one of our signs and he offered to pass the word on,” she said. “A couple of days later he messaged me and he said, ‘I’ve got some free time today, can I help?’ I hooked him up with my son and Will and his girlfriend papered Franklin street and Rosemary with the signs.”
After 10 days, Amy received a call from a family in Durham who had brought Lily in. The dog was safe and was returned to Amy shortly afterwards.
“I’m still speechless,” Amy said.
