Every other Monday, Aaron is joined at 8:30 a.m. by Tom Jensen, the director of Public Policy Polling, for a longstanding regular segment called “What We’re Thinking,” looking at recent survey numbers and discussing what they tell us about American public opinion – election-related and otherwise.
This week, Tom and Aaron discuss the fallout (or lack thereof) from last week’s debate – which was a bad night for Joe Biden, but had virtually no impact on the polls. Why not? Most people have already made up their minds – and the few who haven’t are more concerned about Biden’s policies than his capabilities. (Notably, many ‘undecided’ voters are upset that Biden hasn’t taken a harder stand against the war in Gaza – so Donald Trump’s insistence on taking a harder stand in favor of the war might have actually given Biden a boost.)
And if you’re thinking the Democrats should replace Biden at the top of the ticket, the polls suggest that won’t affect the race either. (Though whether doing so might make for a better presidency is another question entirely.)
