Welcome to “Paying it Forward,” a monthly interview series made possible by Piedmont Health. In this series, we hear from the folks at Piedmont about the importance of community health centers – and why they chose a career in community health.
In this month’s installment, Aaron is joined by Piedmont board member Nehemiah Stewart, a Ph.D. candidate in neuroscience at UNC who’s working to give Piedmont a technology boost. Stewart has developed an AI tool called Maslow, a way for healthcare providers to take patients’ descriptions of their symptoms and identify the social/environmental risk factors that may be causing their ill health. He’s also the co-founder of a nonprofit called Level the Playing Field (launched with former UNC chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz), which provides career training and placement for minority undergrads. (They’re hosting a fundraiser golf event in Raleigh on April 5; click here to sign up and get more information.)
