Following his career-best performance last weekend against Appalachian State, UNC sophomore running back Omarion Hampton was named part of the ACC’s Team of the Week on Monday and the Doak Walker Award National Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Hampton amassed 234 yards on 26 carries – good for nine yards per carry – and three touchdowns. He became the first UNC running back with 200 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns in a single game since Ty Chandler did so in 2021. Hampton is the 27th Tar Heel to ever rush for 200 yards in a game, and his 234 yards are the most by a UNC running back since Javonte Williams and Michael Carter each eclipsed that mark against Miami in 2020.

This is the second consecutive week a UNC running back has been named to the ACC’s Team of the Week. British Brooks earned the honor for his 100-yard performance against South Carolina in the season opener. Brooks missed the game against App State due to a leg bruise.

The Tar Heels will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Minnesota in Kenan Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
