UNC bounced back from its opening-night loss at Tennessee by throttling visiting Siena in the home opener at Dorrance Field Sunday afternoon. The Tar Heels scored four second-half goals on their way to a 5-0 win.

Bella Gaetino opened the scoring less than five minutes in, sending a shot in off the crossbar to give UNC its first goal of the 2025 season. Despite the Tar Heels holding a decisive advantage in possession, the score remained 1-0 until midway through the second half.

Linda Ullmark opened the floodgates in the 64th minute, tapping home a cross from Kate Faasse to double the lead. Rutgers transfer Shaela Bradley added on five minutes later, converting a rebound off a save from the Siena goalkeeper on Olivia Thomas. Thomas wouldn’t be denied for long, sending a rocket into the roof of the Siena net off a direct free kick for her first goal of 2025.

Freshman Eres Freifeld joined the fun in the 83rd minute, scoring UNC’s fifth goal of the day and the first of her collegiate career.

Overall, UNC held a 34-1 shot advantage and a 15-1 edge in shots on goal. Carolina goalkeeper Abby Gundry – one of three keepers to play for the Tar Heels on the day – saved Siena’s only shot attempt.

With the win, UNC improves to 1-1 on the season. The Tar Heels will be back on the road Thursday night when they travel to Athens to face Georgia. The match it scheduled to kick off at 6:30 p.m.
