The UNC women’s soccer team bounced back from a tough loss last weekend to defeat Syracuse on the road Thursday night. The 1-0 result moves Carolina to 8-2 overall and 1-1 in ACC play.

Freshman forward Tori Dellaperuta scored the game’s only goal in the 32nd minute. Dellaperuta pounced on a mistake from the Syracuse goalkeeper, who fumbled a cross inside her own six-yard box. Dellaperuta was able to flick in the loose ball for her fourth goal of the young season. She is now tied with Emily Murphy for second on the team in scoring, trailing only Avery Patterson with six goals.

Dellaperuta’s goal was one of 19 shots taken by the Tar Heels on the night, nine of which were on goal. The Orange managed only nine shots, but did force Carolina goalkeeper Emmie Allen to make two saves in the final six minutes of action. Allen ended the night with three saves, preserving UNC’s sixth shutout win of the season.

With the win, Carolina is still a perfect 4-0 on the road in 2022. In the past three seasons, the Tar Heels have won 17 of 18 true road matches. The road warriors will return home to Dorrance Field on Sunday, the site of Carolina’s only two losses this season. UNC will host Boston College at 1 p.m.
