The UNC women’s basketball team will be seeded No. 4 and have a double-bye in this week’s ACC Tournament, thanks to its win over Duke Sunday and a Virginia Tech loss to NC State. It’s UNC’s highest seed in the conference tournament since 2013.

No. 1 NC State, No. 2 Louisville and No. 3 Notre Dame join UNC as teams with double-byes.

Carolina finished the regular season on a four-game winning streak, and earned a 23-5 overall record and 13-5 mark in ACC play. It is by far the most successful season under third-year head coach Courtney Banghart. UNC’s points allowed per game (54.2), average scoring margin (+19.2) and three-point percentage allowed (25.7) all rank in the country’s top 15. The final AP Poll of the regular season ranked UNC No. 16, which is its highest ranking in seven years.

Because of the double-bye, UNC’s first game at the conference tournament in Greensboro will be this Friday at 11 a.m. The Tar Heels will face either No. 13 seed Clemson, No. 12 seed Syracuse or No. 5 seed Virginia Tech in its quarterfinal matchup. Carolina went 3-1 against those teams during the regular season, with the only loss coming to the Hokies in Blacksburg.

Should Carolina win its quarterfinal game, a potential third game with No. 1 NC State looms in the semifinals. The Wolfpack defeated the Tar Heels in both regular-season games. UNC hasn’t advanced to the ACC semifinals since 2014, and hasn’t been to the championship game since 2013.
