It was a great afternoon for the UNC women’s tennis team on Monday, as the Tar Heels swept both the singles and doubles tournaments at the ITA Carolinas Regional at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill.
Junior Sara Daavettila took home the singles championship at the event, while classmate Makenna Jones teamed with freshman Cameron Morra to win the doubles portion of the tournament.
It marks the second time in the last three years that Daavettila has won this event, as she defeated South Carolina’s Ingrid Gamarra Martins 6-4, 6-2 in the finals. She won five of her six matches in the tournament in straight sets.
Meanwhile, Morra and Jones won their first tournament that they’d ever played together by knocking off a pair of Gamecocks in Megan Davies and Rachel Rohrbacher in three sets (6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (8)).
