Miami jumped out to a 5-0 lead over UNC early on in Friday’s ACC Baseball Tournament matchup, but the Tar Heels battled back and forced extra innings before coming away with the victory.

An eighth-inning, two-run home run from Michael Busch tied the game at five.

With runners on second and third in the top of the 11th inning, Ike Freeman’s sacrifice fly to left field put Carolina up 6-5. A broken-bat single – yes, the metal bat broke – from Ashton McGee plated another run, giving UNC the two-run advantage.

Hansen Butler closed out the game on the mound for Carolina, securing the victory and the appearance in Saturday’s semifinal, as UNC is 2-0 in tournament play with wins over Virginia and Miami.

Carolina will now take on Boston College, the number 12 seed that has made a surprising run in the conference tournament. The semifinal matchup is set for 1 p.m. Saturday.
