UNC fifth-year senior William Perry was the lone Tar Heel selected earlier this week to the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse All-Tournament Team following the conclusion of Monday’s national championship game.

Perry scored a career-high five goals in UNC’s heartbreaking loss to eventual national champion Virginia in the national semifinals last Saturday, including back-to-back scores that brought the Tar Heels within one goal in the closing minutes.

During the Tar Heels’ three-game NCAA Tournament run — which included wins over Monmouth and Rutgers — Perry recorded six goals and four assists.

The Connecticut native finished the year second in scoring for UNC, which was the No. 1 overall seed for this year’s NCAA Tournament. Perry tallied 33 goals and 15 assists for 48 total points in his final year with the Tar Heels and was named a Second Team All-American by USA Lacrosse and Inside Lacrosse Media.

He was the only player named to the All-Tournament Team that didn’t advance to the national championship game, as no Duke player was selected following the Blue Devils’ semifinal loss to Maryland.

Virginia led the way with six players selected, including Most Outstanding Player Connor Shellenberger, while national runner-up Maryland had three players on the list.
