Shooting just 27 percent for the game Thursday night at Carmichael Arena, the UNC women’s basketball team suffered its second straight defeat at home in a 66-54 loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies.

The Tar Heels (7-4, 2-4 ACC) tied their worst mark of the season in scoring while also setting a new season-low with only 35 rebounds. This was also the first time in 11 games that UNC has been outrebounded, as Virginia Tech (7-4, 2-4 ACC) finished with 50 rebounds on the other end–the most by any Tar Heel opponent this season.

Freshman point guard Deja Kelly led UNC with 15 points, while Janelle Bailey added 11 points and Petra Holešínská added 10 as the only other Tar Heel to score in double figures.

Virginia Tech snapped its four-game losing streak largely behind the efforts of senior center Elizabeth Kitley, who ended the night with 18 points and 14 rebounds.

After trailing by just three points at halftime, the Tar Heels allowed Virginia Tech to go ahead by as many as 16 points in the third quarter and weren’t able to come closer than six points down the rest of the way.
