UNC junior Nicole Greene became the latest Tar Heel national champion on Friday night, as she took home the high jump title at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in College Station, Texas.

Greene successfully cleared a height of 5-feet-11.5-inches to defeat Cincinnati’s Loretta Blaut in a tiebreaker that lasted seven rounds after both competitors matched each other jump for jump for most of the way.

She becomes the second Tar Heel to win the women’s high jump, and first since Sheena Gordon in 2002. Greene is also the program’s first national champion since 2007.

Over her first two years at the college level, Greene was named an Indoor All-American twice–finishing 12th in this event as a freshman and fifth last season as a sophomore.

She is also coming off her first career ACC high jump title, which she won in late February.
