UNC softball’s Taylor Wike will begin her professional career after being drafted 18th overall by the Outkast in the American Softball Association’s inaugural draft.

Wike, an infielder, started 225 games for North Carolina. She batted .355, slugging .565 with an .465 on-base percentage and logged 356 outs on defense, assisting 451 with a Tar Heel record of 48 double-plays turned.

The Hiddenite, North Carolina native owns the North Carolina record in walks (122), assists and double plays turned. Over the course of her tenure in Chapel Hill, Wike collected 17 Tar Heel career records and 11 single-season records.

Wike was named the 2018 ACC Defensive Player of the Year this past season, along with recognition with All-ACC first team, ACC all-tournament and NFCA all-southeast region third-team honors.

Beginning June 15, the ADBA will play an intensive six-week schedule in its inaugural season with one to two games daily at Satsuma High School’s softball field near Mobile, Alabama with the season wrapping up on July 31.
