UNC revealed the schedule on Tuesday for its upcoming 2019-20 wrestling season, with the docket headlined by six match-ups against teams that qualified for last year’s NCAA Championships.
The Tar Heels begin the year on Nov. 3 in Blacksburg as they take part in the Hokie Open, before opening the dual meet portion of their schedule on Nov. 8 with a trip to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan–a team that finished last season at No. 5 in the country.
A stop on the west coast awaits head coach Coleman Scott’s squad the next weekend, when they face off against Stanford, before finally returning home for a pair of dual meets against Chattanooga (Nov. 24) and Appalachian State (Dec. 1).
Following the back-to-back home duals, the Tar Heels travel to face Arkansas-Little Rock on Dec. 20.
Winter break will have UNC going to the Midlands Championships from Dec. 29-30, then heading to West Point for the Army Duals–where it will square off against Army, American and Wyoming on Jan. 4.
Chapel Hill is the site for a dual against Princeton on Jan. 10, but then its back to Blacksburg for a date with Virginia Tech in the ACC opener on Jan. 25.
Two more home duals come after facing the Hokies, as Duke (Jan. 31) and Bucknell (Feb. 1) come to town prior to a rivalry match in Raleigh against NC State on Feb. 7.
The final four duals of the regular season are split amongst home and road, as UNC hosts Pittsburgh (Feb. 14) and Arizona State (Feb. 23) before traveling to take on Cornell (Feb. 16) and Virginia (Feb. 21).
This season’s ACC Championships will be held in Pittsburgh on March 8, while the NCAA Championships are scheduled for March 19-21 in Minneapolis.
UNC is ranked No. 19 in the nation according to FloWrestling’s preseason rankings.
