The 2023 season is shaping up for the UNC men’s soccer program, as the team shared its schedule for the fall on Monday night.

The Tar Heels’ 16-game slate will officially begin on Thursday, August 24 at Dorrance Field as they take on Loyola Maryland. Prior to that, the team will have three exhibition games to prepare for the season. The first — on August 11 — is at Campbell University, while UNC will host High Point and James Madison in Chapel Hill on August 15 and August 18, respectively.

Carolina will also face American University, UNC Wilmington, Elon, East Tennessee State, VCU, Florida Gulf Coast, and William & Mary in non-conference play throughout the fall.

The ACC schedule starts on September 8 on the road at Virginia Tech before coming back to Chapel Hill and hosting Notre Dame on September 15. The following weeks feature home games against their rival Duke Blue Devils on September 23 and the defending national champions Syracuse on October 6. Beyond their road matchup with the Hokies, UNC will travel to face Pitt (September 29), Wake Forest (October 14) and Virginia (October 27).

Senior Night for the program is slated for Sunday, October 22, as the Tar Heels host Louisville.

Head coach Carlos Somoano’s program is looking to bounce back after an inconsistent 2022 campaign, where Carolina went 2-2-4 in conference play and 8-6-5 overall. Carolina fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to High Point, but their appearance marked the 29th time the program made it into the tournament field. The Tar Heels had a unique summer lead-up to the season as well, as they traveled across Eastern Europe for more than a week and playing friendlies against teams in Czechia, Slovakia and Austria.

The men’s schedule arrived just a few days after the UNC women’s soccer program shared its own 2023 slate of games. That team will begin its season on August 12 with an exhibition against East Carolina before beginning the regular season on August 17 at Penn State.
