North Carolina men’s and women’s tennis teams have been honored throughout the week for their play after a strong weekend.
The No. 1 Tar Heels men’s team split a weekend in Atlantic Coast Conference play with a 4-3 win over No. 3 Virginia on Friday and a loss by the same score to sixth-ranked Wake Forest on Sunday.
Carolina junior Brayden Schnur was named ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week by the conference after an undefeated weekend. Schnur and doubles partner Jack Murray won doubles matches against Virginia and Wake. Schnur followed that up with singles victories over the defending NCAA singles champion Ryan Shane of Virginia, who is currently ranked eighth nationally, and No. 16 Skander Mansouri of Wake Forest.
UNC is on the road this weekend with a match at Notre Dame Friday, followed by a trip to Boston College on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the UNC women’s tennis team moved up to No. 2 in the updated rankings released on Tuesday.
Carolina is still undefeated in conference play and is back in the second spot nationally, where the Tar Heels sat throughout mid-February. UNC has only been ranked outside of the top five once throughout the season.
Hayley Carter remains the No. 1 singles player in the country and makes up half of the top-ranked doubles team with Whitney Kay.
The Tar Heels host No. 37 Wednesday afternoon and have a busy weekend with a trip to No. 30 Virginia Tech on Friday before rounding out the weekend on Sunday by hosting Boston College.
