UNC hosts Western Carolina on Saturday in its final home game of the 2020 coronavirus-impacted season.

There won’t be any doubt about the outcome of the game — Carolina is currently a 40-point favorite. Instead, the focus of the game will be on the outgoing senior class.

The seniors on the team arrived when Larry Fedora was head coach and suffered through a few losing seasons before Mack Brown was brought in. Brown has often praised the senior class for their ability to adapt and become leaders through the change.

“You look at the senior class, they’ve been really, really important to us,” Brown told reporters after practice on Wednesday. “It’s very, very difficult in a transition for them, when coach Fedora and his staff brought them in. And then they had certain offense, certain defense and special teams coaches that they dealt with. Maybe even two or three different ones in some cases, like [redshirt senior cornerback] Patrice Rene. And these guys have really stepped up and done well.”

Seniors who will be playing their final game in Kenan Stadium include wide receiver Dazz Newsome, running back Michael Carter, linebackers Chazz Surratt and Tomon Fox among others.
