Last season, it took six overtimes before Virginia Tech eventually emerged victorious over UNC.

The two teams meet for the first time since that historic matchup on Saturday in Chapel Hill, both boasting identical 2-0 record and ranked in the Top 25.

Virginia Tech played without 21 players and two coaches last weekend against Duke, but still managed to pull out a win. That could come into play this weekend, especially if the Hokies continue to miss some of their top defensive backs.

UNC quarterback Sam Howell told reporters earlier this week that the Tar Heels are going into this game with a revenge mentality.

“The main thing I remember from that game is we had so many opportunities to win the game and we didn’t make the play,” Howell said. “There were so many times where there’s a lot of people that weren’t positioned to make a play to win the game, and we just didn’t make the play. So definitely, we do want to get that one back, because that’s one that slipped away from us last year.”

Saturday’s game will also be the first time this season that fans are allowed in the stands. Thanks to new executive orders from Governor Roy Cooper, approximately 3,500 fans will be admitted into Kenan Stadium for the game. Those tickets will be split among students, Rams Club members and corporate sponsors. General admission tickets will not be distributed.

At the time of publishing, UNC is a four-point favorite over Virginia Tech.
