The UNC Athletics department is hosting a food drive to benefit the Rogers-Eubanks Neighborhood Association — a nonprofit that works to provide meals for the Rogers-Eubanks community.
UNC is partnering with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina to collect non-perishable food items. A release from the university said it plans to pack 500 food boxes which will provide 900 meals for families.
“Hunger is a serious problem every day in central and eastern North Carolina,” said Jen Woods, Outreach Coordinator with the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina at Durham, in the release. “This year, the need is even more staggering, because of the COVID-19 crisis: more than 760,000 people are facing hunger — a 38 percent increase over last year.”
Community members are encouraged to donate items from Monday, November 9 through Friday, November 13. Collection boxes for non-perishable items will be located in the bus loading zone in front of the Dean Smith Center on UNC’s campus. Drop off times are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Visit UNC’s website for a complete list of non-perishable items requested for the food drive.
