The NCAA released Academic Progress Rate scores on Wednesday, for both the 2016-17 school year and four-year ratings for all sports.

While all of UNC’s 28 sports teams had scores at or above 960, with 1000 being a perfect score, 21 Tar Heel teams posted scores above the national average.

UNC’s average score across all sports was 987, which marks the fourth consecutive year the Tar Heels’ all-sport rating was above 980.

Men’s basketball was one of 10 programs at the school to post a perfect 1000 score over each of the past four years, joining a list that includes: men’s cross country, women’s fencing, men’s golf, gymnastics, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, both tennis teams and volleyball.

The NCAA uses the Academic Progress Rate to track the academic performance of scholarship students who compete on varsity teams. The score measures eligibility and retention each semester by student athletes at every NCAA institution.
