Once again, the UNC men’s basketball team will be without junior wing Theo Pinson.

The Tar Heels’ jack-of-all-trades–who missed the first 16 games with a broken foot–landed awkwardly in pursuit of a rebound during the first half of Thursday’s win over Virginia Tech–spraining his right ankle in the process.

He did not return to the game against the Hokies, and UNC announced Friday he will not play in the team’s game at Miami on Saturday.

At 6-foot-6 with great ball-handling, passing and defensive skills, Pinson has been used all over the floor this season–including at center.

His play-making ability off the bench has sparked the Tar Heels in the six games he’s been back–racking up 20 assists and just two turnovers during a stretch that has seen the team go 6-0.

Pinson has also scored 6.2 points and grabbed 5.2 rebounds per game during his limited action, while providing the signature moment–a monstrous tomahawk slam–in UNC’s win over then No. 6 Florida State.

Doctors are still evaluating the ankle injury, and will likely exercise caution since it occurred on the same foot that was broken earlier in the year.

There is not yet a timetable established for Pinson’s return.
