UNC senior guard Cameron Johnson scored a game-high 22 points Saturday afternoon to lead the 13th-ranked Tar Heels to an 85-76 win on the road against the Miami Hurricanes.

Johnson was one of five UNC players to score in double figures in the game, while the team as a whole matched a season-best by shooting 55 percent from the floor–including a 9-for-20 mark from three-point range.

In addition to Johnson’s efforts, Kenny Williams set a season-high with 16 points and seven assists and freshman point guard Coby White chipped in 15 points and eight assists of his own.

Senior forward Luke Maye added 14 points and nine rebounds from the frontcourt, where he was joined by 12 points off the bench from freshman Nassir Little–who has began to assert himself more and more in the post in recent outings.

Despite missing sophomore forward Sterling Manley for the sixth straight game, the Tar Heels (14-4, 4-1 ACC) used their superior depth to pull away down the stretch against a Miami team (9-8, 1-4 ACC) that only used seven different players throughout the day.

The game was tied 37-37 at halftime–with neither team able to build a lead larger than five points–but the fresh legs helped UNC ultimately pull away around the midway point of the second half.

As a result, the Tar Heels earned their third ACC road win in three tries this season and continue to show signs of living up to the expectations set for them at the beginning of the year.

Up Next:

A tough top-25 matchup awaits UNC in its next game, which will be on Monday, Jan. 21 at the Dean Dome against No. 9 Virginia Tech. That game is set for a 7 p.m. tip-off.

Game Notes:

  • Johnson’s 22 points were the second most he has had in a game this year, with 25 against Gonzaga being his best scoring effort so far.
