In what has become an annual tradition–two non-conference rivals meeting at Charlotte’s uptown BB&T Ballpark–it was the South Carolina Gamecocks who prevailed on Tuesday night, as they defeated the No. 17 UNC baseball team by a score of 5-2.

The Gamecocks (22-15) jumped out to a 4-0 lead through the first four innings against Tar Heel starting pitcher Andrew Grogan, before UNC star outfielder Michael Busch cut that lead in half with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth.

From there, however, the Tar Heels would fail to score again as South Carolina added an extra insurance run in its half of the seventh frame.
