Seven UNC outdoor track and field athletes gained Academic All-ACC status on Thursday, with three men and four women representing the Tar Heels.

Distance runners Patrick Anderson, Jesse Hunt and Dolan Owens were the three UNC men selected, while Anna Keefer (long jump), Emerson Porter (pole vault), Jill Shippee (hammer throw) and Madison Wiltrout (javelin) were the four Tar Heel women honored.

Eligibility for the Academic All-ACC team requires student-athletes to have at least a 3.0 grade point average in both their most recent semester and as a cumulative average throughout their collegiate careers.

Anderson is a freshman biology major from Pittsburgh who placed third in the men’s 10,000 meters at the ACC Outdoor Championships — earning First Team All-ACC recognition.

A senior from Perth, Australia majoring in economics, Hunt qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 1,500 meters and was named a Second Team All-ACC selection.

Owens is a sophomore from Charleston, South Carolina with a major in psychology. He finished fourth in the men’s 800 meters at the ACC Championships, good enough for Second Team All-ACC honors.

Keefer — a senior from St. Michael Albertsville, Minnesota — is a communication studies major who earned All-ACC honors by placing third in the women’s long jump at the ACC Championships.

Porter is a senior from Charlotte majoring in business administration. She placed fourth in the pole vault at the ACC Championships.

Wiltrout finished third at the ACC Championships and 16th at the NCAA Championships in the javelin throw, earning Second Team All-American status. She is a senior from Connellsville, Pennsylvania majoring in exercise and sport science.

Shippee — a senior double majoring in exercise and sport science as well as sociology — was the ACC champion in the women’s hammer throw. She took third place at the NCAA Championships and was named a First Team All-American.
